10 Tips To Score An "A" For Your OP
Monday, August 23, 2010 @ 5:03 AM
YO FASTEST CLASS!!!

The following are some essential points you all might wanna take note for OP. Hope they're relevant and helpful to you all.

Fluency and Clarity
1. Don't speak too fast! Pace your speech. Many students who delivered a memorised script tended to adversely affect their fluency and clarity of speech as well as their awareness of audience because they merely regurgitated their material in a rapid stream without VARYING their tone and speed of delivery.

2. Be more SELECTIVE about the content of your presentation. Don't put too much material for a five minute delivery.

Awareness of Audience
3. REHEARSE and try to remember your speech before you speak in front of the audience. Even if don't memorise the entire speech, you should be able to SPEAK CONFIDENTLY by remembering main points.

4.Smile and BE PLEASANT.

5. Good to make reference to screen. (use of wireless presenter is advisable, but with insufficient practice it becomes a hindrance)

6. Use cue cards and refer to it (if you need to) when you speak before the audience. Do not blatantly read from cue cards, try to make eye contact.

Question & Answer
7. Give AT LEAST 3 POINTS WITH ELABORATION.

8. Offer different perspectives or views from different angles. You should consider alternative views to your own perspectives, and discuss why you agree or disagree with them.

9. Don't jump straight into answering the question. Ask the OP Assessor to repeat the question for clarification and to buy more time to think. Must prepare to answer questions related to your project. Must think on your feet.

Others
10. Use of PROTOTYPE will help to improve "Engagement and Effectiveness" of group presentation. If videos are used, they must be LINKED to presentation.

END

Cheers,
Ervin

10 Tips To Score An "A" For Your WR
Wednesday, July 7, 2010 @ 6:49 AM
YO S04!!

The following are some tips I find useful for doing well in WR, hope it will be beneficial to you all.

1. Use the past year WRs as a BENCHMARK for your WR. Our aim here is achieving an "Exceeding Expectation" standard WR.

2. Ask your PW ST to share comments on a WR with the class so that all of you can learn from each other's mistakes and also allow your ST to address areas of improvement ( e.g no citations being made, incorrect presentation of citations ) and expectations.

3. Make sure that your citations are done CORRECTLY and CONSISTENTLY throughout the WR. Remember, the presence of citations does contribute to how much you substantiate your point (SI). Try not to depend solely on your primary data (e.g. your survey results, market survey, interview) but also include secondary data from newspaper, website etc TO SUPPORT THE SAME POINT.

4. Please do not use statistic/data for the sake of using it. For example, I encountered a group that always use survey data to support the choice of a venue or programme just because their target audience says so. This level of SI is very superficial and low. What you can do to improve is to add your own supporting statements to what could be the possible reasons behind the findings. In addition, do present points on WHY your proposal is better than what is currently being done for the alternatives or amalgamation.

5. If possible, illustrate your proposed activities using pictures so as to present clearly what you are trying to describe to the assessor. Remember " A picture paints 1000 words". Likewise, you can give an overall view of your proposal with an impressive flowchart or simple concept map/mind map ( Please do not make it too complicated or else it may backfire on you! ) on how the objectives will link to your proposed activities.

6. You can go to www.floorplanner.com to design the layout for your activities ( e.g. heritage trail, exhibition, carnival ) if required. It is quite a "cool" website to design professional floor plan with ease.

7. For "Introduction" and "Background" of your WR, remember your group's main focus is to BUILD UP A STRONG CASE on why is there an amalgamation for your topics OR why is there such a need to have the alternative in your alternative topic and how it is beneficial to your target audience.

8. For "Objectives", besides presenting your objectives, state clearly your target audience and rationalise the thinking/reasons behind your objectives. Remember, the assessor will TRACK BACK to your objectives to see if it tallies with what you proposed.

9. For "Research Methods/Data Collection", share the overall approach used in your data collection and why it is necessary for your group to do it. E.g. Why do a survey on the present situation on your topic of alternative? Why do a visit to National Museum? You need not present your findings under "Research Mtds/Data Collection". Instead you may like to consider presenting it in your "Proposal" or "Evaluation" so as to better support and integrate your findings.

10. For "Conclusion", your WR can touch on any of the following: (1) the possible extension of the project scope and why you want to extend it to that area, (2) evaluate how objectives have been achieved, (3) other ideas that may work, (4) what plans can be emplace so as to sustain the proposal.

NOTE: PLAGIARISM is a serious offence and all your WRs will be sent to SEAB for plagiarism check. I have seen 2 groups where students copy pictures or floor plan from past WRs and portions of factual information without any citations being done. They were caught and failed their WR.

If you have any enquiries, feel free to ask me. I will help you for you all are my classmates. XD

Cheers,
Ervin
